Which leaves me wondering what city managers, this unionized workforce, and their Provincially mandated Health and Safety Committee have been up to all this time, how could they ignore the ever swelling numbers and millions upon millions in lost wages to staff not on the job but getting paid anyhow? Two staff at $206,000 a year seems high for a couple of Consultants working in tandem, I wonder who they worked for before being offered contract jobs with the city? Was there a competition for these jobs?
In with the old, in with the new.
That's the philosophy behind the city's plan to hire two staff members to help reduce workplace absenteeism.
Despite a hiring freeze on new positions in the city, council members gave the first stamp of approval to the positions at a committee meeting yesterday.
The new roles -- which will cost $206,000 -- will help keep city employees from missing work from illness or injuries and get them to come back to work earlier if they take time off.
