Fantino charge adjourned: McHale ordered to hand over new evidence by January 20th.

It’s good to see that the Crown wants more evidence from McHale, I wonder how many more Haldimand councillors will be outed for sharing evidence of municipal corruption with McHale, instead of the proper authorities?

The case against OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino has been adjourned until Feb. 3.

The prosecutor appointed by the province appeared in Cayuga court this morning and asked that the case be delayed until next month. There was no bid to stay the charges as some had feared.

Gary McHale, who brought the charge against Fantino, was given the opportunity to disclose more evidence to back up his allegations against the OPP's top cop. He has until Jan. 20 to give that information to the Crown.

Neither Fantino nor his lawyer appeared in court. Fantino has not yet been served with a subpoena relating to the charge.

McHale brought the charge alleging the commissioner used his clout to illegally influence elected officials in Caledonia during the native occupation of a residential construction project on the town's main thoroughfare.

Fantino is facing one count of influencing or attempting to influence municipal officials - an allegation he has vowed to fight.
