So the downtown unionized garbage collectors and thousands of other unionized staff are threatening to go on strike, and city hall luminaries are desperately cobbling together a plan to try and limit the damage.
This makes me happy that I live on Hamilton Mountain, where the private sector collects all my garbage, yard waste and recycling. They will not be going on strike.
I feel sorry for families with children, as recreation centres will be closed. The upside to all this is the city will save millions not having to pay staff. Downtown Hamilton will become one huge garbage dump, as there is no incentive to take your garbage to the dump, where more unionized city employees work, and will probably make you wait a long time in your idling car, before they let you toss your garbage in the pile.
That’s Hamilton, get used to it.
