Buck must stop with McGuinty in lottery scandal

This is about Dalton McGuinty's complete lack of leadership.

Using Duncan Brown as "the fall guy" is a weak excuse for the complete lack of leadership by Dalton McGuinty and his government on the scandal surrounding Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG).

This is about leadership and how Dalton McGuinty is running the province. This is a multi-billion-dollar organization that is out of control.

The OLG recently spent an amazing $6 million just to drop the "C" from its old OLGC logo. One fall guy doesn't cut it. It's time for some real leadership in this province and for Dalton McGuinty to stop his usual 'don't worry be happy' approach. This is a major scandal and we owe it to the ticket buying public to get to the bottom of it.

The PC Caucus and I have been pressing Dalton McGuinty for months to be accountable for the situation at OLG. The McGuinty Liberals refused to order an outside investigation into the OLG, and were content with the organization investigating itself. Since the Ombudsman announced his investigation, Dalton McGuinty has refused my calls for a much broader forensic investigation into the activities and integrity of the OLG.

The PC Caucus also questioned the manner in which Brown's departure was handled.

Apparently Mr. McGuinty decided to axe Duncan Brown on Wednesday but tried to cover it up. That wouldn't be allowed in any other business and it just makes you wonder what else they're trying to hide. We will be insisting full details of Mr. Brown's publicly-financed severance package be revealed immediately.

The integrity of Ontario's lottery system is in shambles and Dalton McGuinty has let that happen. Getting rid of the head of OLG on the eve of the Ombudsman's report is little more than scapegoating - it's not a real commitment to fixing the problem.
